Eastham Public Library
Programming Policy
As part of its mission to support and strengthen the community, the Eastham Public Library develops and provides programs that inform, support lifelong learning, and entertain. Library staff select, plan, and deliver programs to library patrons.
All library programs are free and open to the public. Admission will never be charged for an event held at the library, and donations are not to be solicited at any library event. The Friends of the Library may sell merchandise at or near library events to fundraise for the library. At the direction of the artist, artwork exhibited at the library may be sold to the public. All sales are managed by the Library Art Committee. Performers or authors may sell books or CDs as part of a library program. The sale of other products at library programs is not permitted unless authorized by the Library Director or designee. Programs are not for commercial, religious, or partisan purposes or for the solicitation of business.
Food may be served at library events, but it is subject to approval from the Library Director and the Eastham Board of Health. Approval from the Board of Health can be obtained by filling out the Town of Eastham Temporary Food Permit, which can be found on the Town of Eastham website.
Library staff use the following criteria as guidelines to select library programs. (Not all programs will meet all criteria.)
Persons interested in presenting a library program may submit a proposal to library staff via email that will be reviewed according to the above criteria and scheduling availability in the upcoming programming season. Program proposals will not be fielded at the Circulation Desk or over the phone. Acceptance of a programming proposal does not guarantee that the program will be put on at the library. Selection of a program during a particular year does not set a precedent for a program to be reoccurring at the library. Program presenters may be required by the Library Director to fill out a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) acknowledgement form prior to their presentation at the library.
Some programs may be geared towards specific audiences or age ranges. Advance registration for programs may be required for programs with limited attendance. Information on how to register will be available on the library’s website.
Library programs are funded primarily by the Friends of the Eastham Public Library, and through local, state, and federal grant opportunities.
